17th June every year is a day when fathers are treated special and they are celebrated by their children, however old they may be. To give father something which he would like, reminds me of the song which Lulu made famous in the movie ‘To Sir with Love’ and there was a line in the song of the same name, which went ‘what do you give some one who has taken you from crayons to perfumes’. How true. Dad is someone who has played the multiple roles of a friend, a philosopher and a guide for most of us. He has been strict, mellow, moody, transparent and most importantly, a simple person, who seemed to be happy even with the most insignificant things in life. so if you are trying to think of some gift for
father’s day, try and work out all the things which you remember seeing your father do. If he was the type who loved the outdoors and insisted on taking out his boat for a rowing session, then you could get him some aids or kits which could make his boating or fishing easier. If dad is the type who loved tinkering with all things mechanical – then get him of the most modern tool kits which can make his hobby more interesting.
It is easier to but a gift for your father, if you know his tastes and hobbies. For instance, if dad loves to watch TV but never gets the chance to watch his favorite game of sports because it is precisely at this time that mom watches her favorite soap, then you could consider buying him a small portable TV which he could take to his study and watch his favorite channel without disturbing anyone else in the family. if playing card games is his hobby, you could think of many computer card games, which could take much of his leisure time. Presentation of the gift is as important as the gift. You could buy a

gifts or special gift basket and fill it up with all the small things he loves, which could also contain a mug or a T shirt which says ‘World’s Best Dad Ever’. Though T shirts and coffee mugs are old ideas, fathers still use them because that makes the children happy.
Most fathers love to spend time outdoors. If you have a garden and you find him pottering around the garden during his leisure time, buy him some seasonal plants which he would love to plant and see them grow. These days container gardening is very common, so you could buy him some potted plants which he would nurture and spend time with.
If you have the time and talent, you could compose some poems specially made for him. You need not be immensely talented with your pen, but father will appreciate this gift dearly since it conveys your love, care and attention. It is evident that you have spent some amount of time and effort in making this gift and any parent would appreciate this gesture.
Fragrances, neckties, jackets, hats, shoes, walking sticks may be classified as traditional gifts, but they are still given by children to their fathers and the do get appreciated. of course taking him out for a special lunch or a dinner would also be a good idea to make him special. If health permits, a crate of his favorite Sunday beer would be a great gift for dad. |
